Product Care
Weather Guard

Protect particularly delicate leathers like suede, moose hide, shearling and deerskin with new Weather Guard featuring Scotchgard™ Protector for leather. Weather Guard keeps leather looking good longer by resisting water spots and making oil and water-based spills bead up to simplify cleaning. All while preserving the feel, breathability and natural softness that is leather’s alone.

Weather Guard with Scotchgard™ Protector turns leather into a high-performance material - without affecting its rich, natural look and feel. To apply, simply spray, then allow two hours to dry. For first time use, we recommend two applications with drying time in between. Thereafter, treat weekly or monthly depending on use of your leather goods.

Caring for your Minnetonka product:

Minnetonka products are made of natural material that conforms to their wearer and to their environment. Each is unique, with natural characteristics that enhance their beauty. With proper care, your Minnetonka product will age gracefully and inherit its own genuine personality.

  CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Smooth or Grain Cowhide

  • Use a cream shoe polish to protect the finish.

Suede Leather

  • We recommend Weather Guard with Scotchgard™  Protector from 3M, which repels water, oil, food, most beverages and household products. Weather Guard is available from many Minnetonka Moccasin retailers.

Deerskin and Moose Hide

  • Use a delicate leather cream to clean and moisturize soft, supple leathers.

Sheepskin

  • Use a mild detergent (we do not recommend Woolite™) or normal hair shampoo. Hand blot areas to be cleaned with a cloth and cool water. For difficult spots, use a mild brush. Rinse (hand blot) excess moisture with a towel. Air dry away from direct sunlight, heat registers, fireplaces, hair dryers, etc., as these will evaporate the natural oils from the leather, leaving it dry and damaged.

If your shearling product is submerged in water, the shearling may shrink and the hair may become slightly matted. The shearling will return to its original size after a few wearings.

Keeping Leather Laces Tied

  • Rawhide and leather lacing add natural functionality to Minnetonka moccasins and boots. However, because of the natural oils and characteristics in leather, the lacing may easily come untied. Here is an idea to keep your laces tied:

    1. Wear your new Minnetonka product for a couple of weeks, until they are broken in. Make a final adjustment to the lacing and bow so that it's comfortable, then soak the bow (not the whole shoe) in water until saturated. Let them dry naturally and the laces should remain tied.
